Mission Statement

The International Ch’an Buddhism Institute (ICBI) was founded on the 4th of July 2013 in London, United Kingdom, and exists as an expedient umbrella organisation designed to gather all the (Chinese) Ch’an, (Japanese) Zen, (Korean) Son, (Vietnamese) Thien, (and other related or interested Buddhist schools), together in worldwide support and mutual friendship, bound together in the acknowledgement that Chinese Ch’an Buddhism has spread far and wide from its initial inception in ancient China, and that Chinese Buddhism is a unique and distinctive cultural interpretation of Indian Buddhism, from which it originates.

The ICBI is primarily an internet based initiative that is represented throughout the world by the spread of the Buddha-Dharma, which is manifested in the multitudinous Buddhist Schools that work to support the people in their local communities and spheres of influence.  The internet facilitates instantaneous communication free from the hardships associated with international travel, the expense of conventional communication through the postal and telephone services, and the difficulties of locating isolated communities.
