ICBI Regional Office Project
The International Ch’an Buddhism Institute (ICBI) UK Office, (in consultation with the Beijing Office), has established a set of guiding principles upon which ICBI Regional Offices can be founded. The ICBI is a co-operative network of‘Kalyanamitra’, or ‘Spiritual Friends’, united by a commitment to the practice of meditation, and an understanding of the Ch’an tradition, or similar teachings. The example of Master Xu Yun (1840-1959) serves as the guiding model for the ICBI.
Regional Offices represent a geographical area that may, for example, be represented by (but not limited to) a State, Region, County, District, Country or Continent, etc. There is no set rule to define the geographical boundary in principle of a Regional Office, as this approach allows flexibility in defining such a position. However, once a geographical boundary is defined, such a boundary is permanent and set until such a time as the Regional Office is dissolved. A Regional Office (and its representatives) offer spiritual (psychological) clarity and guidance, which influences the generation of positive and purposeful action (behaviour) in the world. The sharing of correct knowledge and wisdom (Dharma) is facilitated through the auspices of an ICBI Regional Office.
